Frank Ocean vs. Bridget Kelly: Thinking About You/Forever
How To Make It In America The Music Industry.
That’s what every aspiring singer, songwriter, etc. tries to figure out.
It could happen off one YouTube video. Ask recent Cool & Dre signee, Don Trip, whose track “Letter To My Son” (though uploaded in 2009) recently found its way to the hip-hop blogosphere and put his name on everyone’s radar.
It could happen off one mixtape. Frank Ocean’s Nostalgia, Ultra seemingly came out of nowhere but has given the Odd Future songster a radio hit with “Novacaine”.
I don’t have the answers on how to make it in the industry but I can tell you what you shouldn’t do.
Don’t let someone outshine you on your single before you’re even on.
Frank Ocean released the track “Thinking About You” last week and everyone wondered if it was off an upcoming project.
A few days later, that question was answered. Frank’s version was a reference track for Bridget Kelly’s, “Thinking About Forever”.
The bad news for Bridget Kelly? Frank Ocean sounded better singing it than her. Better luck next time Bridget.
